What is A-LURE?
A-LURE is a game located on the streets of Melbourne between April 12-20. There are six artworks located down alleyways, up high in the sky, in dark places, and quietly hiding on shelves within the city. The artworks are digital projections, interactive video and sound works and a huge photographic light box.
As a game player you can interact with the artworks, contribute your ideas to some of them and even have your moving image embedded within one of them.
To find them you need to register and become a game-player.
To play, register via:
a) SMS: text the word "register" followed by a nickname of your choice to 0428 141 103
or
b) WEB: visit the REGISTER section of this website and follow the instructions.
During gameplay, you will need to visit the website to update your profile and you can also contribute to two of the artworks on-line. Registration is free but standard SMS charges apply when sending text messages to the A-LURE mobile. If you don’t wish to actively play but would like to still see the artworks, you can visit the A-LURE Info Desk located in the Atrium at Federation Square and pick up a program containing a map that reveals the secret locations. Once you have registered, you're ready to play!
Instructions for gameplayers
• Save the A-LURE mobile number on your mobile phone: 0428 141 103
• To see all 6 of the artworks you need to visit the city during the day and also at night. Late afternoon is a good time to see all of them in one day. Every time you're in the city and ready to play, text the word ‘play’ to the A-LURE mobile number 0428 141 103 to receive instructions on where to start or the next location.
• At each artwork there is a yellow sign that you will need to find with the A-LURE logo on it. This sign has a keyword that you must text to the A-LURE mobile number to proceed. After entering the keyword you can also add your response to the artwork and tell other players what you think.
• You will then receive a text message containing another gameplayer's response and clues to the next location. You may need to come to the city another day if some of the artworks are closed.
• Some artworks have two text message requests, you can vote or enter additional responses to be incorporated within the artwork.

A-LURE is a game that will turn around our idea of how to play. In A-LURE there is no competition and everyone’s a winner.
A-LURE will construct a current view of our reality. It will create an environment in which to question, think, communicate and play.
For some of us, life is about acquiring “stuff” the daily grind and the endless distractions that take our attention away from things that really matter.
As we know reality is larger than what our TV’s or trashy magazines tell us.
We are part of a world where basic human rights are not honored. Where hospitality and generosity are not a given. Where our excess and waste are having such an impact that our very existence is in question. This is a world undergoing dramatic change and we are at the helm.
We are part of a world where many of us believe that everybody has the right to basic human needs like shelter, food, clean water, security, health care and education. Many of us want a reality where equality, mutual respect, justice, understanding and a fair go for all are assured.

How can we make this a reality?
Over the past 18 months young people with experience of hardship and artists have been examining:
• what are the modern cultural lures that tempt us away from confidence, self-respect and cultural acceptance?
• how do these lures affect us as a culturally diverse society?
• how can we resist these lures? Can we create alternative lures that encourage empathy, understanding and respect?
As a result A-LURE will take these ideas to the streets for all of us to see and experience. During A-LURE game play you will have the chance to add your own images and text to the created artwork and see it played large on the streets of Melbourne.
